Department of Physics gives lectures of basic subjects of special study to freshmen and sophomores, such as Mechanics I, Mechanics II, Electromagnetism, Thermodynamics, Wave, Modern Physics I, Modern Physics II, and Basic Engineering Laboratory (Physics Laboratory). Which subject is taken from among Electromagnetism, Thermodynamics and Wave depends on the special study course. For the information of each subject, refer to the syllabus.

As these subjects are the foundation of the special subjects, the students are requested to completely study them. Mathematics is also an indispensable part of the foundation of these special subjects. Specifically, Trigonometric Function, Logarithmic Function, Differential Calculus, and Integral Calculus are important. In Mechanics, for example, velocity and acceleration are expressed by using Differential Calculus, and equation of motion needs Integral Calculus in solving. Generally, Physics and Mathematics are closely related to each other. Thus, the scientific pursuing of physical phenomena in the world of nature by using Mathematics is one of the important objectives of Department of Physics.
